THE WATER CYCLE

Related to the topic of the other entry "Climate change", we are going to learn "The water cycle".

The water cycle is the constant movement of water around the Earth. This cycle includes the changes of state of water, Do you remember them? Let´s review the vocabulary learned in the previous lesson by playing a game.

Well done! Now, I want you to investigate about the water cycle and its phases in detail. You can use the information proposed in your social science textbooks. There is a link below with a video of the water cycle which hasn´t got the spoken explanation. I want you to record a podcast explaining what happens in the video using your own information and with your own words.

The water cycle

This subject matter is familiar to you but there are some new concepts that we have to focus on, that is why I have proposed an activity in which we will construct our personal glossary. I want you to have a look at the list of words below and include the words that appear in the text book and aren´t in this list.

To finish, I have made a summary on the topic. I want you to create your own mind-map using this information and including pictures to clarify it.

The water cycle: is the constant movement of water around the Earth.

This cycle includes the changes of state: liquid, solid and gas.

The phases of the water cycle are: Evaporation, Condensation, Precipitation and Collection.

1. Evaporation: the heat from the Sun and the transpiration from the plants cause some of the water to evaporate and contribute to this process.

2. Condensation: the water vapour in the air rises and cools, it turns into water droplets and ice, which forms clouds.

3. Precipitation: when the droplets become bigger, they become too heavy to stay in the cloud and fall to the ground as precipitation.

4. Collection: this precipitation falls and collects in bodies of water such as rivers and lakes. When it falls on the ground and is absorbed by the soil is called groundwater. Rivers, lakes and underwater carry this water back to the seas and oceans, where it evaporates all over again.

What does sublimation means? Include your answer within the mind-map.
